Welcome to Fourth Grade

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!
Fourth grade is an exciting year for students. They are expected to act more responsibly and are given more independence in the classroom. The curriculum in fourth grade is demanding, and the students will be learning a lot of new concepts this year. Students are responsible for completing homework, projects and classroom work neatly and in a timely manner. As a parent it will be important for you to encourage them to complete each task independently, but please offer assistance when needed and check their work when they are completed. It will be important that we work together as a team to ensure the needs of your child are met. Fourth grade will be a year of new beginnings for your child, and it should be a memorable time to watch them grow!

A little about your teacher

My name is Jamie Smith, and this is my fourth year of teaching. My husband, dog and I moved out to Colorado last August from Kansas City. I taught fifth grade and third grade in the Shawnee Mission School District and then worked as an Educational Aide and Long Term Substitute at Dakota Valley Elementary School in Cherry Creek last school year. Teaching is one of my favorite things to do, and I feel lucky to be teaching a wonderful bunch of fourth graders at a wonderful school! My husband and I love spending time at the lake, hiking and camping. I enjoy reading and am one class away from finishing my masters degree! I can't wait to get the year kicked off to a great start! I look forward to working with each and everyone of you!
